I was nominated for “The Next Big Thing” meme by fellow writer and blogger Laura Lee Anderson. She’s written a YA series that’s a thriller about a groups of teens with a blood-borne disease that makes your blood turn to acid when exposed to oxygen (ahem…seeking agents now) and just recently finished a YA love story about a deaf boy and a hearing girl that fall in love.
And now for the next big thing…my WIP!
1) What is the working title of your Work in Progress?
Working Title: The House of Devereaux
2) Where did the idea come from for the book?
I’m an obsessive Vampire Diaries watcher and an Anne Rice fan from back in the day. I wanted to write a vampire novel that wasn’t about vampires. Sounds weird, I know, but I feel like the vampire thing has just been done so many times that it’s hard to have a fresh take on it. So I’ve created race of creatures with some similarities to the tropes we all enjoy.
3) What genre does your book fall under?
YA Paranormal Romance
4) Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Ooh –if Zooey Deschanel were ten years younger, she would be my main character
And, for the two boys that round out the love triangle, also assuming they were each a good decade or so younger too…
5) What is the one-sentence description of your book?
A paranormal love triangle told from three different points of view, and three different points in time, that all intersect at the story’s climax.
6) Will your book be self-published or agented?
Agented, hopefully *crosses fingers*
7) How long did it take you to write your first draft?
It’s not done yet…but I expect my first draft will be done around March. I’m writing each of the points of view separately to try to avoid character/voice breaks.
8) What other books would you compare your Work in Progress to?
Oh shizzle. I can’t actually do this without picking out awesome authors I can hardly aspire to emulate, but at the risk of sounding completely cracked, I guess I’ll say Interview with the Vampire meets the Vampire Diaries…without the vampires.
9) Who or What inspired you to write this book?
My love of vampire books but growing boredom with vampires as and werewolves as the paranormal go-to these days.
10) What else about your book might pique readers’ interest?
The different points of view are each set in different time periods (past, present, and future), so one of the POVs is actually written in diary entries from the 1800s.
And, finally, I’m supposed to tag others to partake.
Instead of doing that, I’m going to mass tag all of you! Write a meme and link back if you wish, or email me at writerlious@gmail(dot)com and I’ll add your meme to the post here.
I hope the holidays treated you all well. I can’t wait to hear what you’re working on!

Ooh your story sounds very interesting!
I love the actress and actor choices for the characters, too. All the best!!
Thankies, Sara! I love finding pictures on Google images when I’m doing my character profiles.
That is such a good idea!
Nice! You were so hush-hush about this, it’s cool to see what it’s about!
LOL. I know! I need to work on that –I’m usually so tight-lipped when working on a WIP until I get a full draft done.
Thanks for tagging me. Can’t believe it took me this long to get around to it!
I love it! I love the cast you chose too! I may take you up on the challenge!
Yay! Please do. Feel free to email or post at let us know.
Love your choices for the actors although I would still have to read the story to get a better feel for each character before finalizing the casting.
Vampires without the vampires? Wait, are they just like cannibalistic blood sucking regular everyday teens? I am very curious about this.
And the guy on the right? Yowza!
Total hottie, right? I have no idea who he is. *grins*
Your story sounds great. I’ve always enjoyed the vampire genre. Look forward to seeing it in print. Very best wishes for 2013
TY!
I am NOT a fan of vampire novels or movies but this work in progress is very interesting I want to read it once it’s done. Crossing my fingers that this book be agented.
Best wishes on your book!
Thankies Elizabeth!
Erin, I really like the idea of POVs from different time frames- and that you are trying to take on Paranormal without the typical paranormal. Sending positive writerly vibes… Happy New Year!
Sqeee!! Thank you, Julia!
